Lamisil -Toenail Fungus Treatment

Lamisil is a medication used to treat toenail fungus. This anti-fungal medication is available in topical and oral forms. Lamisil works by slowing the growth of fungus and killing them. It is a prescription medicine which is used to treat various forms of fungus. As topical medication may not be able to penetrate deeply into the toenail, oral medications are usually used.
Toenail Fungus:
Fungus can invade the toenails through tiny cuts or through the gap present between the nail and nail bed. A warm and moist environment enables the fungus to grow, resulting in thick, brittle and discolored nails. The symptoms of toenail fungus are:
- Yellow or brown discoloration of nails
- Brittleness, splitting of nails
- Thick nails, collection of debris under the nails
- Separation of the toenail from the nail bed
Lamisil –Toenail Fungus Treatment Information:
Lamisil treatment may take several months to show full effect on the fungus. Gradually, the new nails would grow out replacing the infected toenails. Make sure you continue this medication as prescribed by the doctor, as discontinuing this may enable the fungus to grow. But, if the condition of the toenails worsens, do consult your doctor.
Side Effects of Lamisil Treatment:
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Stomach problems
Precautions of Lamisil-Toenail Fungus Treatment:
- In rare cases, Lamisil may cause liver disease. However, if you develop symptoms of liver disease such as nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, dark colored urine, abdominal pain, yellowing of the eyes etc. –do consult your doctor immediately.
- If allergic reactions such as itching, rash, hives, breathing difficult are experienced by the patient, he/she should consult the doctor.
- Breastfeeding mothers should inform the doctor before taking up this medication
Avoid starting and stopping Lamisil without consulting your doctor. Using Lamisil for the prescribed period can help you to totally get rid of toenail fungus.
